Try DD's new search options
New and improved search features are now available on the DD web site to allow you to find playing partners much faster and with more ease.
1. Looking for something active to do in your local area, but don’t know exactly what you’re after?
We’ve had requests from members who weren’t exactly sure what activity or sport they’d like to play or take up… so they just wanted to check out what was on offer in their local area.
Previously, to start your search you had to first select an activity or sport. That’s no longer a mandatory. You can simply leave the activity/sport blank and enter your local suburb and postcode. The search results will then show you all the listed activities/sports in which members are participating in your area. You can then browse through and contact the ones that most interest you. Click here to search for all activities in your area
2. Search for several activities/sports at a time
Similarly you can now enter multiple activities/sports within the same search to find different playing partners to suit your interests. For example, if you want to find playing partners for several sports in which you’re interested (e.g. tennis, golf, cycling and running), you previously had to search on one activity or sport at a time. This was quite time-consuming, especially if you have a wide range of sporting interests. Now you can select multiple activities/sports, simply by holding the CTRL key and using your mouse to select the activities/sports that interest you. Click here to search for multiple activities in your area
3. Bocce, Petanque, French Boules … they’re all boules to me!
Bocce for the Italians, Petanque for the French and French Boules or Bowls for the non-French speaking lot …they all refer to the same sport. Previously, if you searched on ‘bocce’, the results would only show you DD members who play ‘bocce’ but not ‘petanque’. Now you can search on any one of these different ways of referring to the same sport and you’ll see everyone who plays bocce, petanque and French Boules! Click here to see how sport grouping works
4. Don’t know your postcode? No problem.
Did you know there are nine SPRINGFIELDs in Australia? (And Homer and his family don’t live in any of them!) There are two each in NSW, Victoria and Queensland and one each in WA, SA and Tasmania!
And even MANLY is not unique to NSW’s northern beaches – the postcode 4179 in Queensland shares the same famous name. For the stats. buff, there are 997 suburbs that are not unique to a state. So why are we telling you this?
When you search in Double Drummer for an activity in your area, you are asked for a suburb… and a postcode if there is more than one suburb of the same name in Australia, such as SPRINGFIELD and MANLY. Previously you had to know your postcode by heart. Now, it’s easier as you’ll be provided with a list of postcodes from which to make a selection.
5. Blog
Another exciting change on the web site is the addition of the doubledrummer blog on the home page. The DD blog provides a place for the team at Double Drummer and anyone else out there to engage in discussion about all things sport, whether sharing thoughts on the current state of NRL refereeing or arguing about whether or not Leyton Hewitt is still capable of knocking off the likes of Federer, Nadal and Roddick to bag himself a Grand Slam. We at Double Drummer encourage everyone to get involved in the conversation and add to the fun of being part of the Double Drummer community.
6. Your local weather
To help you better plan your outdoor activities, Double Drummer has now added a local weather report when you’re logged in to ‘my profile’. Check out the new weather feature
7. G'day to our non-Aussie mates!
Double Drummer has now opened its doors to people who currently live outside Australia… whether those who are planning a visit or others wanting to live in Australia. Now you can enter your non-Aussie address and start searching and contacting playing partners and teams, so you can continue enjoying your favourite activities when you arrive in Australia. Join now!
We hope these improvements to the site will make the DD experience easier, faster and more enjoyable for both our existing members and all newcomers. Happy searching… we look forward to hearing from you on the blog!
